Air Fryer Steak
After much trial and error, I've learned how to make the perfect steaks for air-frying. I chose to use a thinner sirloin. However, this could be a good choice for any steak you'd like. I recommend that the steaks you decide to cook are at a minimum of one inch in thickness. Thicker steaks cook much faster without having the chance to get brown. A small amount of oil applied to the steaks can help the steaks to brown more quickly. Applying a dry rub to leaner steaks such as this sirloin or chops can improve the overall colour. It is usually served with baked potatoes, mashed potatoes or mashed potatoes and some vegetables like asparagus or green beans that have been roasted.
Tips and Variations for Perfect Steak in the Air Fryer
- Steak type: I used leaner sirloin to make this recipe. However, this technique can be used for any thick steak.
- Thickness is Important: Start with steaks at least 1 inch thick. Thicker steaks cook faster without allowing time to become brown.
- Room Temperature: Allow your meats to cool to room temperature 30 minutes before cooking to ensure the most significant outcomes.
- Dry Steaks Rub steaks, pork chops and other meats using paper towels to remove moisture. The water will then flow over them instead of brown them.
- Better browning: When spraying with oil, your steaks, chops, and other vegetables are more brown.
- Dry Rub to Leaner Steaks Applying a dry rub on the leaner steaks will help with overall colour. I kept this recipe simple using salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
- Don't overcrowd the basket: The steaks should be air-flowed enough for proper browning.
- Rest: Remove the steaks and allow them to rest on a platter, lightly secured with foil to ensure they don't cook in the basket of an air fryer.
How long do steaks take when cooked in the air fryer?
- Medium Steak For one inch-thick steaks cooked to medium-rare, place the Steak in an air fryer preheated for 12 minutes, then flip it over after 6 minutes.
- Medium-Rare Steaks For one inch-thick steaks cooked to medium rare, cook the Steak in an air fryer preheated for 10 minutes, then flip the Steak after 5 minutes.
- Adjust time according to thickness: You can adjust the cooking time to suit for thicker or thinner steaks.
What temperature do you air fry your Steak?
Use a meat probe to test your steaks, and then take them off five degrees before the desired time since the temperature of the meat will increase when it sits.
